We are looking for a Copyright Officer


As a Copyright Officer , you will handle requests for the use and reproduction of Canadian Museum of History (CMH) assets. You will research copyright status, contractual obligations, and ethical considerations. You will also negotiate fees, terms, and conditions of use and issue licenses. You will work with CMH project teams to acquire and clear content for exhibitions and other purposes. This includes finding suitable material, negotiating fair prices, and ensuring licenses meet CMH requirements. You will maintain records of requests, prepare invoicing documents, and respond to copyright-related questions. Additionally, you will collaborate with copyright experts from other Canadian museums and external organizations to share knowledge and best practices. Other related tasks may be assigned as needed.

Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience in:
• Negotiating rights and reproduction agreements
• Drafting and reviewing copyright licensing agreements
• Using automated databases (Vubis, EMU, Excel, etc.)
• Providing client services
• Managing documents

Knowledge Of:
• Copyright law and licensing practices
• General principles of museology
• Archival formats (text, audio/video, photography, etc.) and digital reproduction limitations
• Database structures and cataloguing systems
• Basic financial administration procedures

Education: University Diploma in Archival, Museum Studies, Library Information Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Compensation: $ 70,034 to $ 86,674 (E5)
Status: Permanent Full-Time Position (# 10244)
Security Level: Reliability Status
Location: 100, Laurier Street, Gatineau, Quebec
